СУДИЈСКИ ВРСКИ

Се колебав дали да го постирам текстов зошто се си се одвива по она “…караванот си врви..“.А, од друга страна , пак, нека има факти и нека го следат караванот…
Како информација е веќе постаро,ама неодмана видов (2-3 сек, па сменив канал)интервју со оваа персона, па, велам пуштај го текстот.
Станува збор за поставувањето на судијката Николовска за судија на Уставниот суд на БИХ како надворешен член.

Госпоѓава се занесува како да е тоа “нормален след “ на работите за неа- значи експерт и само напред .
Факт е дека поставувањето за член на уставниот суд е по предлог на председателот на судот во Стразбург каде беше оваа Николовска судија.
Да потсетам дека по нејзиното враќање во Македонија имаше проблеми околу нејзин повторен избор во Врховниот уд на Македонија. Пречката се лоцираше во Маневски – неговото наводно противење за тоа. Е, сега ,кога се знае за поврзаноста на цинцарите и за “етичките и морални вредности“ на цинцарите, јасно е дека кога цинцар удира на цинцар тоа е врв( илипоточно -дно) на нивниот “морален“ потенцијал бидејќи си ги знаат “ вредностите“ и кој како напредувал, а напредувале(““) и двајцата во поранешниот систем.
Имаше интервенција и од претседастелот на судот од Стразбург но безуспешно. И сега предлогот на истиов за судија во уставен суд на Босна му доаѓа како инат-тонч за тоа што е игнориран овде и ете ќе им покажел дека е посилен и може да направи тој а да не биде спречен од овде ).ова на некој начин си го признава и Николовска во интервјуто.
Значи , мислата на судијката дека е ова некој нормален след на нејзината кариера не држи баш вода само след на други околности и врска.
Ќе испадне дека Европа нема некој (по)асален човек стручњак за меѓународно или уставно право па еве кадар за такво место.Иди бегај…
Елем,она што посебно ме поттикна за постов е тоа што имав прилика пред неколку години во едно друштво да чујам за “вредноста“ на оваа судијка и топтан и за други вакви судии(или “судии“) – (“метлари“-како што вели оној Грчев од судскиот совет).
Во парнична постапка која траела подолго време ,напрасно е вклучена и овва Николовска – како “случајно“ ,и тужениот бил цинцар – кој се служи со лаги и лажни сведоци,практично докажано во самата постапка ама сето тоа не вреди бидејќи планираното “судско уверување“ било друго и токму тогаш тужителот дава дополнување на тужбата со барање на времена мерка и забрана за изведување работи од страна на тужениот со што ја менувал фактичката состојба на објектот. И наместо да се излезе веднаш на лице место за утврдување на фактичката состојба тоа се прави после месец и половина (!??) кога и сета таа папазјанија била корумпирано обработена па тој записник од увид на лице место останал и непотпишан ,па со претходниот судија се продолжува во корумпирана завршница на постапката.И,“нормално“,тужениот како го добива спорот.
Е, сега видите – тужителот доставил барање за заштита на законитоста до републичко јавно обвинителство за кого сето тоа било “законито“ и кога истиот тој текст-барање бил доставен како кривична пријава до основно јавно обвинителство се прифаќа и после обработка и во истражна постапка – со што се потврдиле укажувањата за сторени кривични дела во тек на парничната постапка, започнала кривична постапка против тужениот и неговите сведоци во парничната постапка.( а за жал немало место и за судиите што биле фактички соучесници во сето тоа)
И ,како што се вели еднаш корумпирано,секогаш корумпирано. И тука после одреден период започнува копрумипирачката игра и започнуваат фалсификати (поттикнати -подржани од судијката(мислам Бојаџиевска се викааше) и со молк од страна на обвинителтсвото). Еден од обвинитите јавно на рочиште најавува дека оттогаш нема повеќе да се јавува на поканите и нити ќе ги примал и за чудо тоа се остварило. со години додека на го застариле предметот за него.( случајот за него бил одделен покасно)
Во првиот дел од таа “претстава“ првостепено тужениот(тогаш обвинет) бил осуден ама условно и после жалба уште една алка во тој корумпирачки ланец- судија во второтепен суд(се сеќавам добро за ова , била онаа Ингилизова која за жал е судија во Уставен суд на Македонија)- се укинува пресудата и се наложува стрикно како да се постапи со идиотски објаснувања својствени на корумпирана глуперда што и дете од осмолетка не би се осмелило да каже такви глупости.
Во текот на судењето оштетениот дал посебен приговор до судот и обвинителството (своевидна кривична пријава) во кој се посочува на сите пропусти во постапката и новите кривични дела -фалсификати)сторени во кривичната постапка.
Да не испадне сега дека е ова само рекла -кажала освен што видов црно на бело документи и пресуди ова било објавено и во “Фокус“ значи потврдена кривична пријава пар ексаланс.
И од сето тоа,како и обично бидува, ништо – МОЛК.
Иначе,човеков доставувал ургенции кај сите јавни обвинители кога се поставувани со години и сето тоа си останувало без одговор-молк.
(Не е на одмет на потсетам дека овој Маневски е цело време во обвинителството, значи цел период работел на “историски реформи “ во правосудството)

Пред фактите и боговите молчат особено овие овоземските кога ќе бидат фатени со спупштени гаѓи.
А, да , правдата е сепак достижна(дали?) (како велат, ама, изгледа како фарса), па наместо во апс оваа судијка од кривичната постапка ( Бојаџиевска) е покасно разрешена заради несовесно работење во предметот “Баци“ со уште други двајца( едниот председател на судот- иначе карикатура не само од судија туку и онака како “човек“)

Е, сега што е ова со оваа Николовска?Па, како што се вели “животот пишува романи“ или пак мести заебани ситуации , и така нешто покасно овој предмет се наога пред судот во Стразбур кога оваа Николовска е веќе судија таму. Бидејќи оваа добро знае за што станува збор му се бара на човеков( иначе тој бил веќе законски наследник на неговиот родител кој починал)што повеќе матерјал од парничната постапка иако предметопт сеоднесувал на кривичната постапка за да види колку знае за сето тоа- колку е таа вмешана. И,нормално таа не си бара изземање од овој предмет – за што не само има она што се вели “конфликт на интереси“ туку е и најподло вмешана во корумпирачката игра во судската постапка што ја прави и недиостојна и за судија а камо ли тогаш и за судија во Стразбур. И предметот завршува со оцена дека е неддопуштен укажувајќи како и немало некое прекршување на човековите права. После тоа човеков дал докази за замешаноста на Нколовска во предметот и дека е во најмала раака неморално и неправедно таа да суди по овој предмет, имало објаснување дека за тоа ќе биде известен .
И нормално немало ништо од тоа.
Толку од принципиелноста и праведноста и правичноста на Стразбур.
Но,фактите се сепак ФАКТИ но за жал и остануваат обично задскриени од ваквите особи како Николовска кои ќе си ја верглаат својата приказна и како “кадар“и ќе си напредуваат.
А, кадарот со фактите останува во архива.
И ,после ,останува она дека правдата е (НЕ) достижна….

- Sometimes, but not always, the country's name reflects the language and cultural identity of its people. It can also reflect a geographic concept. I believe that the people of Macedonia are certain in their language, identity and nationality. It is natural that they want the country's name to reflect this, but the name itself does not contribute to the strengthening or weakening of the people's certainty in their identity, says former mediator in the Macedonia-Greece name dispute, Robin O'Neil in an interview with Macedonian Television (MTV).

==="I had doubts in the past that maybe such ideas are reviewed in Greece, but the country does not have any territorial pretensions towards Macedonia or its people. Greek national interests lie in the fact they want stable and economically successful neighbors, including a stable, prosperous and independent Macedonia. A group of leading historians held a press conference Monday at the National Geographic Society to announce they had "entirely fabricated" ancient Greece, a culture long thought to be the intellectual basis of Western civilization.

The group acknowledged that the idea of a sophisticated, flourishing society existing in Greece more than two millennia ago was a complete fiction created by a team of some two dozen historians, anthropologists, and classicists who worked nonstop between 1971 and 1974 to forge "Greek" documents and artifacts. "Honestly, we never meant for things to go this far," said Professor Gene Haddlebury, who has offered to resign his position as chair of Hellenic Studies at Georgetown University. "We were young and trying to advance our careers, so we just started making things up: Homer, Aristotle, Socrates, Hippocrates, the lever and fulcrum, rhetoric, ethics, all the different kinds of columns—everything."

"One night someone made a joke about just taking all these ideas, lumping them together, and saying the Greeks had done it all 2,000 years ago," Haddlebury said. "One thing led to another, and before you know it, we're coming up with everything from the golden ratio to the Iliad."

"That was a bitch to write, by the way," he continued, referring to the epic poem believed to have laid the foundation for the Western literary tradition. "But it seemed to catch on."

The first mediator in the Greece-Macedonia name dispute, ambassador Robin O'Neil, recommends:

Macedonia to be admitted to NATO
under “FYROM” reference

The Article 11 of the interim agreement opens door to Macedonia towards NATO and EU membership under FYROM reference. If the Macedonian government wishes to join the NATO and EU, my advice is to do this through use of interim agreement i.e. by applying FYROM reference, first mediator in the Greece-Macedonia name dispute, ambassador Robin O'Neil, recommends in the interview with programme “Voice of people.”

O'Neil said:

- It is of significant importance the fact that agreement was negotiated by Cyrus Vance, US representative led by the UN. This means responsibility rests on the US government and UN Secretary General to support this agreement to be obeyed.

- I do not know whether NATO Secretary General is quoted correctly. Interim agreement is any case is obligatory to Greece. It is true that NATO works according to consensus principle but we must have in mind what does it mean consensus. It is opposite of vetoing. During the negotiations for a consensus, the governments discuss about their common interest so they achieve agreement based on that common interest. If a country opposes the common interest, then other members should make pressure on this country to make her to urge for common interests. In this case, no one can deny that Macedonia’s membership in
NATO will strengthen the Alliance and the international stability, and especially the stability of the Balkans. Also Macedonia’s membership will not weaken Greece in any case nor will endanger Greece’s position in relation to name issue of Macedonia, if this membership is negotiated under FYROM name.

- The Macedonian government will undoubtedly call attention to NATO members to point out that interim agreement provides way to which Macedonia would become member of the Alliance under FYROM name without endangering the position of Greece related to name issue. If Greece opposes Macedonia to join NATO under FYROM, then other NATO members will undoubtedly consider this behaviour as a proof of hostility towards Macedonia and not only as an attempt to keep the Greece’s position in the name dispute.

-If you are small country, you cannot resolve such problem by being aggressive in the international relations. Active and persistent, yes. But always to try to make friends and to obtain friends due to common sense and flexibility. And just right here the interim agreement can be used. My advice is now to apply for NATO and EU membership under FYROM name. Nothing is endangered in this way and the reaction of the Greece’s government relation to application will show the real position of Greece to the other members of the two organisation in relation to the interim agreement, signed by Greece.

Macedonia must not change its name

Robin O'Neil:

"Macedonia must not change its name and give in to Greece. If is does, then Greece will set fresh requests until it reaches the final goal, which is to make Macedonia disappear from the map, says first mediator in the Greece-Macedonia name dispute".

At the first international internet TV conference titled "Macedonia: Our Name and Identity, Our Pride and Dignity" at Ohrid TV station NTV, O'Neil said Macedonia should work hard to join EU and NATO.

"Macedonia already has two names, it does not need a third one. The state must focus on joining EU and NATO. When it achieves this, its temporary name will lose its importance and relevance. It must work hard on this", said the ambassador.

According to him, Greece does not observe the conditions set in the 1995 Interim Treaty, which give Macedonia the right to insist on EU and NATO accession under the name agreed with Resolution 817.

"I say this because I am convinced this name is just for temporary use and will cease to apply soon. However, if Macedonia accepts any other name, such as Republic of Macedonia-Vardar or Republic of Northern, Upper or any other Macedonia, then Greece will be encouraged to resume with other requests and blackmails that would be fatal for Macedonians and Macedonia", said O'Neil.

He reminded that Greece refused his proposal "Republic of Macedonia-Skopje", which he gave as mediator in 1992 as compromise for the country's UN accession and temporary use.

Aristotelis Tziampiris, assistant professor at the University of Piraeus, assessed there is rare opportunity for the name dispute to be settled until November.

"There is a are opportunity for the row's settlement with no winners or losers. Taking into account both countries are ruled by governments ready for compromise, I see an opportunity for a solution by November", underlined Tziampiris.

Значи, станува збор за тајно подготвениот, а шок-транспарентно објавениот владин(БМРО-ДПМНЕ) проект “Скопје 2014“ ( а по премиерот и 2016,2018, итн. ) којшто го претставуваат како градителски проект што ќе помогне и за економски развој на земјата.Во тој поглед истапуваат со изјави за големо ангажирање на градежната оператива со околу 10 000 градежници , па со бројот на членови на нивните семејства, и други на збор ангажмани и ете ти резултати и развој…… и сето тоа, според нив, за околу 80 милиони( според опозиција- 200 милиони) евра инвестиции. А, бе,ајде!

Нема да навлегувам ни во содржината на самиот „проект“ ни во нивните бројки ни во мешаницата за дебата за сето тоа туку ќе ви укажам на оваа можност :

Која варијанта е подобра и кој е за која варијанта!???

Ако го прочитавте текстот, гледате дека за ова знаат и претседателот и премиерот и како ете тие покажале интерес за овој проект, а што прават да биде спроведен во дело!?

А, очигледно е дека ова би било тоа што обезбедува и вистинско вработување и вистински пари секоја година и тоа во десетици(стотици) милиони евра и што обезбедува вистински развој за цела Македонија.

Зошто се молчи за овој и слични проекти!??

Дали за тоа што не се владини мегаломании?

Или не обезбедува доволно “капацитет“ на власта за „слободно“ “менаџирање“ со капиталот!?

FORMATION OF THE “KRSTE PETKOV MISIRKOV FOUNDATION” IN GREECE

In commemoration of the 135 anniversary of the birth of the great Macedonian intellectual, Krste Petkov Misirkov, the Edessa/Voden office of the European Free Alliance – Rainbow, the political party of the Macedonian minority of Greece, is pleased to announce the formation of a foundation in his name.

The main aims and goals of the “Krste Petkov Misirkov Foundation” will be to:

• Raise awareness among the ethnic Macedonian population in Greece about the life and writings of Misirkov.
• Organise lectures, seminars and conferences on the life and works of Misirkov.
• Translate into Greek and publish all his writings.
• Establish a museum and educational centre in Misirkov’s honour.
• Support associations in Greece which promote Macedonian culture.
• Support efforts to preserve and promote the Macedonian language in Greece.

The forming of the “Krste Petkov Misirkov Foundation”, just days after the opening of the Edessa/Voden office of the EFA – Rainbow, shows the strong will of the large ethnic Macedonian population in Edessa/Voden and in the Region of Central Macedonia, to struggle for their ethnic, cultural and political rights in Greece.

Krste Petkov Misirkov was born 18 November 1874 in the village of Pella/Postol, Ottoman Empire (located today in the Region of Central Macedonia, Greece). He was a philologist, reformer of the standard Macedonian language, historian, ethnographer, publicist, author of the first book and magazine on standard Macedonian language. Misirkov’s most famous piece of work was the book “On Macedonian Matters” published in 1903.

The Greek Post Office sabotaged the election campaign of the party of the Macedonian minority in Greece EFA-Rainbow (Vinozito) for the European elections, the party says in a statement.

In order to fill the “void” resulting from the Greek media blackout of EFA-Rainbow’s election campaign, in the weeks leading up to the European elections of 7 June 2009, the party mailed out promotional material to voters in Northern Greece.
The material was sent via the state-owned “Hellenic Post” and included a letter, a DVD and ballot papers,

The party was informed by the Florina/Lerin office of “Hellenic Post” that there was a package waiting to be picked up in the name of EFA-Rainbow (Vinozito).
And, that the package was a sack of letters that had not been delivered. The letters included bundles of letters sent to whole villages that had been returned to the Post Office.

EFA-Rainbow condemns this interference by “Hellenic Post” in the election campaign.

Greek neo-nazis interrupt promotion of Greek-Macedonian dictionary

Athens, June 3 (MIA) - About 20 activists of Greek fascist organization "Chrysi Avyi" (Golden Dawn) interrupted late Tuesday the promotion of Greek-Macedonian dictionary in Athens, organized by party of Macedonians in Greece "Rainbow".

During the promotion, a group of masked individuals entered the International Press Center in order to cause an incident. They damaged the equipment of the cameramen, destroyed the promotional materials and verbally attacked the promoters, including renowned U.S. Slavist and linguist Victor Friedman.

After receiving information that the police is about to arrive at the facility, "Chrysi Avyi" members ran away and the promotion resumed.

"Chrysi Avyi" was recently registered as a political party and has close ties with the parliamentary nationalist party LAOS of Georgios Karatzaferis.

One of "Rainbow" leaders, Pavle Vaskopoulos told Macedonian TV station "Kanal 5" the incident was a signal that "Greek authorities start to fear the Macedonianism in Greece", adding this is a disgrace for Greece, which cannot be hidden from the European public.

Last night's incident occurs five days before the European Parliament elections in Greece. a. The Skopians' activities for the autonomy of Macedonia may be efficiently confronted mainly by wiping out the use of the idiom, in the regions near the borders. This opinion is based on the realizations that also other regions that in older times were the center of "Macedonism", like Kastoria, are not hit by the Skopian propaganda, because there the use of the idiom has been almost wiped out.

b. This element by itself would be enough to exclude any thoughts of repatriation of the P/R (political refugees) who now reside in Yugoslavia and who have been brought up with the "Macedonian idea", the "Macedonian language and culture", independently of their participation or not to the organizations SNOF, NOF and activities taken for detaching Greek territories, during the period 1946-1949.

c. As for the above it is imperative to:
1. The creation of a state institution that will depend from the Prefectures of the regions near the borders, lined with the suitable and specially trained to the "Plot against Macedonia" subject, personnel. This institution will engage itself only with this subject, with the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will collaborate closely, but in secret, with the Security Authorities and all the public services (Tax office, Schools, Army, Church, etc.).
2. In the public services and especially in the educational institutions the employees who will be in service have to be ignorant of the local idiom.
3. The establishment of special enlightenment seminaries, for all the public service employees and the clergy who are in service in the sensitive region of Macedonia.
4. The establishment of motivations for the obligatory residence of the public servants and other employees, in the quarters of their service (example: payment of the rent, extra pay, etc.).
5. Establishment of Cultural Association, like "ARISTOTELIS" in Florina and economic help to them, for the realization of events and the publishing of books, newspapers, magazines, etc. and afterwards these will be sent to the Diaspora abroad who has origins from the regions of the senders. This will boost their national sentiment and they will be protected from the anti-Hellenic propaganda that is been practiced by S/M (Slavmacedonians) organizations.
6. Insertion of various obstacles (non-recognition of diplomas, postponement of military service, etc.) for the Greek students who wish to study in Skopje.
7. Marking in each village of persons who, due to their kin bounds and their personality, influence a large circle of co-villagers and with any means (even with money payments) get close to them and use them properly so they will behave as the fighters of the use of the idiom in their circle. To this direction a very positive and effective role can be that of the Youngers of the political parties, by the judgment and coordination of the Government, when a between parties agreement will be reached.
8. Recruitment in the Armed Forces, in Police Bodies, in the public services and Organisms of employees with origins from Florina region, by exception, and their obligatory location in other areas of the Country.
9. The encouragement, by the leadership of the Army, of meetings and marriages of Army officers, who are on duty there and have origins abroad, with women that speak the idiom. (…)

Rainbow - Party of Macedonians in Greece to hold its second Congress on Sunday

Rainbow - a political party of Macedonians living in Greece - will hold its second Congress on Sunday, which as announced is to review the activities for improving the status of Macedonian minority in the Greek society.

The Congress will assemble delegates from all local party organizations in northern Greece and of the European Free Alliance (EFA), as Rainbow has been its member or several years.

The event is expected to send a message to Greece's leadership, calling it to respect the rights of the Macedonian minority in compliance with all international conventions.

Organizers of the event say there have been no announcements yet by Greek ultranationalists for obstructing the party's congress as it was the case four years ago in Thessaloniki.

Macedonia files legal proceedings against Greece at International Court of Justice

The Republic of Macedonia has filed legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague against Greece. Macedonia has filed an Application with the Registrar of the Court to bring Greece into compliance with its legal obligations under the Interim Accord of 13 September 1995, which binds the two countries., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday in a press release.

Article 11 of the 1995 Accord obliges Greece not to object to Macedonia's application to join NATO. At the NATO Summit held in Bucharest in April 2008, however, Greece objected to extending NATO membership invitation to Macedonia, thus flagrantly violating its obligations under the Interim Accord.

Antonio Milososki, Foreign Minister and Macedonia's representative before ICJ, says that protection of Macedonian rights under the Interim Agreement is the only reason for filing the Application.

- We have given a lot of thought before initiating this case, but we see no other way for justice to be done and our rights to be protected. We hope this action might encourage Greece to bring its actions into compliance with its international legal obligations, and that it might also encourage our two countries to reach a final settlement on outstanding issues in the spirit of good-neighbourliness and cooperation envisaged by the Interim Accord, Milososki said.

He expressed belief that ICJ would help in settling this legal dispute, considering its just and prompt actions.

- We are not asking the Court to deal with other political issues, so that the dispute over the name is not the subject of our Application. We also want to stress that we remain strongly committed to all aspects of the Interim Accord, in particular to the process of negotiations with Greece, mediated by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Milososki said.

The Application requests the International Court of Justice to adjudge and declare that (Greece), through its State organs and agents, has violated its obligations under Article 11, paragraph 1 of the Interim Accord; to order that (Greece) immediately take all necessary steps to comply with its obligations under Article 11, paragraph 1 of the Interim Accord, and to cease and desist from objecting in any way, whether directly or indirectly, to (Macedonia's) NATO membership and/or any other 'international, multilateral and regional organizations and institutions' of which (Greece) is a member, in circumstances where (Macedonia) is to be referred to in such organizations or institutions by the designation provided for in paragraph 2 of United Nations Security Council Resolution 817 (1993).

ICJ is the primary judicial organ of the United Nations.Established in 1945 by the UN Charter, the Court began work in 1946 as the successor to the Permanent Court of International Justice.

The Court's workload is characterised by a wide range of judicial activity. Why Critics of Greece’s Macedonia Policy Keep Silent

The Greek establishment still punishes people who deviate from the official line on Macedonia, as one former PASOK official discovered to his cost.

The legal prosecution and state-inspired harassment of people professing different views on “national issues” that took place during the early 1990s has left deep marks on Greek society.

Thus, today, even those few persons that have more critical views on the Macedonian issue, for example, prefer to keep them to themselves, fearing that such views will not improve their career prospects. As recent events show, their fears are not unjustified.

Grigoris Valianatos had been employed since 1985 with the leading left-wing opposition party PASOK as a political communications advisor. His job was to “package” the political message of the party and help disseminate it. He did not have any say in the contents of the message.

But when Valianatos was asked about his views on the “Skopje” issue and the Macedonian minority in Greece during a TV interview last Thursday, he replied that the country had every right to be called “Macedonia” and that a Macedonian minority existed in Greece.

Although he made clear that those were his personal views and by no means the views of the party, this clarification did not help him. The next morning, PASOK issued a laconic statement informing the public that Valianatos’s contract had been terminated because he had expressed “personal opinions” that contradicted the party line.

“I was really shocked when I read the statement,” Valianatos told me when I met him in Athens. “Everybody knew my views all these years and I never had the slightest problem. Indeed when I gave a speech at a PASOK meeting a few year ago and referred to the existence of a Turkish and a Macedonian minority the participants all applauded, including the party leader, George Papandreou.”

The government in Skopje argues that there is indeed a Macedonian minority in Greece, which has been deprived of its basic human rights of cultural and national expression and education in its mother tongue.

Athens, on the other hand, says that the only true Macedonians are the Greek Macedonians. As Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis wrote in his letter to FYROM Prime Minister Gruevski "there has never existed a Macedonian minority" in Greece.

Ever since the break-up of former Yugoslavia in 1991, Macedonia's name and history has been the object of a dispute between Athens and Skopje.

After Greece strongly objected to Macedonia’s entry in to the United Nations under that name, the country was admitted in 1993 under the provisional term “Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,” FYROM, pending a solution to the dispute.

The Skopje government insisted it had no territorial claims on Greek territory, while Athens for its part pledged not to block Skopje’s accession to international organizations, as long as it remained under the provisional name.

The so-called “name” row gained in momentum this April after Athens blocked Skopje’s application to join NATO, insisting Macedonia had to change its name first.
Valianatos, meanwhile, is also the author of various books, which until recently appeared on the personal website of Papandreou. After the incident, they disappeared from the PASOK leader’s website.

Valianatos insists his former role in PASOK had been purely technocratic. “My role was not political. I would offer all sorts of ideas concerning how to make PASOK’s message more effective but I had absolutely no influence in shaping the message,” he said.

“That is why I find the decision to terminate my contract incomprehensible. It is like dismissing your dentist because he happens to be a Maoist!”

Papandreou recently attended in Brussels a meeting of the Socialist International, the organization of which he is the current president. What is ironic is that most European socialists would agree with Valianatos on the issue of a Macedonian minority.

Alas, Greece is not like the rest of Europe, and what is considered self-evident in a European context is still too often considered a dangerous heresy in the Balkans.

Greek radical democrats want Macedonia recognized by Athens

We are hoping with our actions in Greece, the Macedonians will form a positive opinion regarding our citizens. We have never had an issue with Macedonia's constitutional name and our initiative is aimed at Greece recognizing your country under the constitutional name.

This was the opening statement from the Greek Radical Democrats, an organization out of Athens who is currently visiting Bitola, southern Macedonia. The organization is said to be undertaking "Anti-Nationalist", "Anti-Militaristic" initiative all over Greece.

At todays' meeting with representatives of the Aegean Macedonians, the Greek radical democrats confirmed they are opening a widespead campaign in Greece to ban and remove the racist laws implemented in the past 20 years which forbids Macedonians born in nothern Greece from entrance in the country and return on their land.

"This is unacceptable, racist behaviour of official Athens. This is, in fact a major crime that is being waged on the Macedonians until present day, even though the very same people gave their lives so Greece can be a free country today," says Nikos Janopoulos, representative of Greek radical democrats organization.

This meeting was seen in positive light from the Aegean Macedonian communities.

"Our meeting with our friends from Athens will bring about positive developments so Greek Parliament can remove the laws brought against us, so we can sooner return to our properties." says Gorgji Donevski, the head of the Aegean Macedonians Association.

MINA finds that Greek resentment by ordinary Athenians against official Athens is growing, particularly in the past two month. Many believe their Government has crossed the line with its policies regarding Macedonia.

MoFA: Greece's arguments were heard at the military parade

Skopje, October 31 (MIA) - The Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has every legitimate right to choose how it will express its protest related to the outburst of anti-Macedonian hysteria at the military parade in Thessaloniki, Ministry officials said Friday in their reaction in connection to Thursday's statement given by Head of Greece's Liaison Office to Skopje, Alexandra Papadopoulou.

- The Greek arguments stated by the head of Greece's Liaison Office in Skopje, Papadopoulou we unfortunately had the chance to hear them at the military march held a few days ago, from the mouths of Greek army members. We're prepared and adamant to inform all relevant international organisations and institutions about the case and to submit a footage from the military parade, MoFA stated.

Macedonian Experts: Greece is EU/NATO's mentally challenged child

“Nationalistic and at times fascists chants from the Greek military at the parade in Salonika is not surprising.

What is surprising is the passive non-responsive ways of the EU and NATO who refuse to issue any comment, four days after the scandal” say experts who described Greece as a mentally challenged child under the wings of EU and NATO able to say or do anything without being reprimanded.

“We expect, if there is such a thing as a system of values that unite this nations, that system to be equal for everyone, instead of hiding behind some fake solidarity, because Macedonia is at the door of the Alliance”, says Biljana Vankovska, University Professor.

The chants at the military parade in Salonika were demonstration of force and pressure on Macedonia, say the experts.

“This is a verbal pressure on Macedonia, with very dangerous tendencies, I’d say military threats aimed at Macedonia and the supporters of Macedonia.” Says Blagoja Markovski, expert on security questions.

NATO has no comment on the incident, the statement came from Brussels without an explanation. No comment from the EU. OESC will first wait for the video, and may come up with a statement.

“No question Greece behaves like a mentally challenged child who neither knows what it does nor pays attention to the surroundings. EU and NATO are Greece’s parents in this case who after each bizarre behavior by their child, feel sorry for it, are embarrassed, but have no comments in order to protect it, instead of helping it.” says Dejan Markovski, expert on Foreign Relations.

Seven Macedonians prosecuted for the events at Lofi/Zabrdeny

The public prosecutor of Florina/Lerin has pressed charges against seven individuals who participated in the recent events at the village of Lofi/Zabrdeny in Northern Greece.

Among them were the four initially arrested on the scene of the unrest while the other three are also inhabitants of the village.

According to the public prosecutor, the accused obstructed public transport when they blocked tanks and other armoured vehicles of the Greek Army, initiated riots among the local population, and resisted violently when policemen tried to reopen the passage leading to an army exercise field in the vicinity of their homes. No date has been set yet for the trial, but its is likely that it will take place next year.

Protests in Lofi/Zabrdeny against the army exercises caught the public eye not only in Greece but also in the neighbouring Republic of Macedonia and internationally. The issue caused a public debate inside the Greek Parliament while Macedonian minority party EFA-Rainbow directly accused the Greek authorities of policies of discrimination.

The detention of four Macedonian journalists who were covering the events also led to protests by the Macedonian Government, the International Federation of Journalists and the International Press Institute-South East Europe Media Organization. In addition, IFJ and IPI-SEEMO urged the Greek authorities to explain why the journalists were obstructed from performing their duties and eventually forced to leave Greece. No answer to these complaints has been given so far by Greek officials.

Greek Government caught lying to their public, again

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo did not shift its position regarding the use of Macedonia's name and it will still call the country by its constitutional name.

This is the note sent Thursday by the Permanent Mission of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Congo's authorities confirm that their position on Macedonia's name remains unchanged, in line with the Communiqué on establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries, signed in September 1999.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki wrote a letter to the Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi, in which he expressed gratitude to the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo on using the constitutional name of Macedonia alongside 126 countries across the world.

It's not clear what is the Greek Government gaining from manipulating its population. Greek Media boasted on the "success" of Athens even though it knew they are misinforming the public. Of course, Panama, Mexico and now DR. Congo will disappear from the Greek media, until the next propaganda appears.

It has become more than obvious that 'news' coming out of Athens should not be taken seriously.

Hats off to the Macedonian Government who insisted they were not notified by DR Congo on the change of their stance and believed the African country will not change its stance. Right they were.

Greece has no right to impose name to Macedonia, Bulgaria's former president and current chairman of Balkan Political Club Zhelyu Zhelev said.

In an interview to Radio Deutsche Welle's Bulgarian news, Zhelev stressed that the name and the identity of a nation and a state constitute an existentioanal issue and a sovereign right to individual choice.

"When it comes to existentional and political problems of a nation and a state, another country cannot dictate how the country should call itself. I've told Greeks many times - you simply don't know what you want. On what grounds you deprive the Republic of Macedonia from its right to call itself Republic of Macedonia? The country existed within the old Yugoslav federation nearly half a century with the same name," Zhelev said.

"Furthermore, the provisional name is inadequate. All republics that acquired independence after the break-up of the Yugoslav federation are former Yugoslav republics. Why Greece won't call Croatia a Former Yugoslav Republic of Croatia, then Former Yugoslav Republic of Slovenia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Serbia...? India uses constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia in bilateral communication

One of the most influential Asian states, the Republic of India, starting this month uses the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia in bilateral communication between the two countries.

Indian Government on Oct. 6 informed Macedonian Foreign Ministry that newly opened Macedonian Embassy in New Delhi has been registered in state diplomatic protocol of this country under its constitutional name and not under the reference the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Despite of severe oppose and strong pressures by the Greek officials in an attempt to prevent this decision by the India's authorities, Macedonia with enormous diplomatic efforts, succeeded Macedonian Embassy to be registered under the constitutional name, Macedonian Foreign Ministry told MIA.

India and Macedonia established diplomatic relations in Feb. 1996 under the provisional reference the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Macedonian Government in Jan. 2008 adopted a decision for opening an embassy in New Delhi aimed at intensifying the political and economic cooperation with India.

The tense ordeal of four Macedonian journalists detained by police in a northern Greek village on Monday is gaining wider attention, and has caused an international outcry against the perceived heavy-handedness of Greek authorities- and what their apparent contempt for the free press may be covering for.

For their part, the Greeks are claiming that the Macedonian government is trying to stir up trouble; Greek Foreign Ministry Spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos accused Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski of engaging in “a provocative effort to blatantly distort the truth,” reported Kathimerini. By daring to speak out against the crackdown, the Macedonian leader is, according to Koumoutsakos, making “a new, unacceptable attempt to intervene in Greek domestic affairs.”

However, the Greek version of ‘the truth,’ which states that the journalists were somehow blocking military movements, and in the end left Greece of their own free will, is wildly at variance with what the journalists themselves experienced, as we will see below. It also ignores what local witnesses claim is a recent legacy of violence against civilians, and broken promises by the army in this normally quiet border region.

The journalists, from A1 Television and the Nova Makedonija newspaper, were detained by police near the Florina-area village of Lofi (Za’brdeni in Macedonian) and interrogated, after they had sought to interview ethnically Macedonian villagers involved with protests against a Greek Army military operation in the region (a newspaper report cites the villagers as being opposed to the operation because “the army’s use of live ammunition interferes with their farming.”

The journalists, who were consistently barked at in Greek by police despite not knowing the language particularly well, were threatened with having their equipment confiscated and ordered to leave the country. It is uncertain as to whether they will ever be allowed to return.

Battle for name transferred to Latin America

Macedonia was not formally notified about the shift in Mexico’s position regarding the use of Macedonia’s constitutional name, as Greece claimed on Friday.

Macedonian Foreign Ministry spokesman Petar Culev told Makfax news agency that Macedonia would require a formal reply by Mexico over the use of Macedonia’s constitutional name.

Greek FM claimed on its web site that Mexico’s Foreign Ministry Undersecretary 'briefed' his Greek counterpart Yannis Valinakis that “pending settlement of differences regarding the name of the country, Mexico will provisionally call the country fyrom.”

In July this year, Greek authorities 'officially' announced that Panama changed its position regarding the recognition of Macedonia’s constitutional name, but Macedonian as well as Panama authorities denied the information.

Greece once again caught in own web of lies. Last night Mexico sent a thank you to the Macedonian UN Delegation thanking it for the support of Mexico becoming a member of the UN Security Council.

In its letter Mexico used "Macedonia" contrary to the information spread in Greece by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is a second time after Panama, Greece is caught in its own web of lies.

Macedonian diplomats aren't very concerned with what kind of information is being placed or comes out of Greece. "Even if Mexico changes their mind, which they didn't, Greece will need 124 years to change the mind of the rest of the countries" says a diplomat in Skopje.

Meanwhile Pavle Voskopulos of Vinozito, has called the Greek Government Spokesman a 'Liar' for constantly misinforming the public in relation not just to Macedonia, but in general. "I don't remember when was last time he said something that was truthful. In regards to the Macedonian journalists being detained, Kumucakos said they were filming military buildings. This is a scandal because there are no buildings there, let alone military. His lies were an excuse to terrorize the Macedonian journalists." says Voskopulos.

EFA-Rainbow initiaties another action in the Council of Europe in support of Macedonian political refugees from Greece

Motion for a Resolution in the Council of Europe against discriminatory Greek laws

Upon the initiative of the European Free Alliance – Rainbow, a Motion for a Resolution on “Discriminatory laws against ethnic Macedonian political refugees” has been tabled at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The Motion, supported by representatives from 13 different European countries, spanning all major political groups, “strongly urges the Greek Government, without delay, to review the above-mentioned laws and end the discrimination resulting from them so that ethnic Macedonian political refugees from Greece can reclaim their Greek citizenship and property” and recommends that the relevant PACE committee “investigate this matter and engage with the Greek authorities with a view to ending the aforementioned discrimination.”

EFA-Rainbow wishes to thank Mr Geert Lambert of Belgium (the first signatory) for his continual support on Macedonian human rights issues. Mr Lambert is a member of the Flemish political party “Vlaams Progressiven”. Both EFA-Rainbow and Vlaams Progressiven are members of the European Free Alliance – European Political Party, which together with the Greens make up the fifth largest group in the European Parliament.

EFA-Rainbow also extends its gratitude to all signatories including the numerous ones from Turkey and the Republic of Macedonia.

The Motion, officially tabled during the recent Part-Session of PACE, was officially put onto the website of the Council of Europe earlier this week. The matter will now be discussed by the Bureau of the Assembly in late November 2008. EFA-Rainbow trusts that the Bureau will look at the Motion seriously and act in the best interests of the Macedonian political refugees from Greece.

EFA-Rainbow also calls upon the various bodies of the Council of Europe to continue to monitor the situation in Greece to ensure that the human rights of the ethnic Macedonian minority are being respected.

German MEP stunned by Nimetz's proposal

"It is very important to break away from the name blockade and see Macedonia in NATO" says German MEP Angelika Beer.

"When I first heard of Nimetz's proposal, I was stunned. I thought this is just byrocracy, this is impossible. Why would Macedonia have a name "Northern Macedonia"? Northern Macedonia implies there must be Southern Macedonia, and the two will eventually be united. It is practically the same case as Cyprus." says Angelika Beer.

"Macedonia can make deals under the constitutional name, so the name is sort of, a compromise. Never the less, the Macedonian Government and people via referendum will decide for any proposal they would see fitting" concluded Beer.

IPI/SEEMO expresses its concern at the detainment of journalists in Greece

The Vienna-based South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), a network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI), is alarmed at recent restrictions on reporters' ability to freely carry out their work in Greece.

According to information before SEEMO, four journalists from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia/Republic of Macedonia, Goran Momiroski of A1 TV, Meri Jordanovska of Nova Makedonija newspaper, and two other crew members of A1 TV, were arrested in the afternoon of 13 October 2008 by Greek authorities.

The journalists had intended to cover a protest against a disputed army training site and gunfire exercises by the Greek Army in the village of Lofi, near the Greek-Macedonian border.

Despite carrying valid press cards and visas for Greece, the media representatives were detained because they did not have a special filming license and requested to hand over the material they had gathered at the demonstration.

After their release, a police escort strongly advised them not to talk to eye witnesses of the protest and eventually escorted them to the border.

SEEMO Secretary General Oliver Vujovic voiced his concern over this clear infringement of the free movement and freedom of expression of journalists and hoped the Greek authorities will adopt strong measures against such interference with media efforts to report on a story of public interest.

Only a week ago, EFA-Rainbow expressed hope that the “irresponsible-responsible” people who decided the heavy artillery gunfire exercises at the field beside the Macedonian village of Lofi/Zabrdeny took the message from the wide reaction against it of the local population.
We believed they understood, also because they’ve also promised that no heavy artillery shots would be performed, during the 10 days the army exercise was supposed to last.

Unfortunately, seems that some people will never come to their senses. In an unprecedented demonstration of slyness and audacity (and of course, without the slightest warning, in order to catch the inhabitants “off-guard”), tanks made a snap move inside Lofi/Zabrdeny, in an obvious attempt to make the exercise shots they could not perform one week ago. Numerous special police units came along also, to implement the “law of the stronger” with “Far-West” methods.

Despite all that, inhabitants not only from Lofi/Zabrdeny but also from Vevi/Banica, Kelli/Gornichevo and Meliti/Ovcaharany stood in front of the army and police forces to obstruct the exercise. Immediately afterwards, the “brave” police forces, using methods resembling the 7-year long dictatorship (1967-1974), started to attack the gathered people. They broke arms and legs, violently dragged women and children from the street (!), handcuffed and arrested 4 of the locals (including the president of the Lofi/Zabrdeny municipal council) as if they were the worst criminals and took them to jail.

This outrageous police attack did not intimidate the local population. OIn the contrary, hundredths more gathered and stayed all night in front of the exercise field, demanding the unconditional release of the arrested. Eventually, this happened in the early morning hours with no charges pressed against the Macedonians, who were simply defending the village’s PRIVATE roads which lead to their PRIVATE property.

We would directly like to ask the Greek political, army and police authorities:
• In which other part of the Greek territory, raw violence was selectively used to suppress a peaceful demonstration of local population who wanted the closure of an army exercise field? How is it possible that in Greece of 2008 we have 2nd class citizens? Is it because of their beliefs and the language they speak?
• Under what kind of rationale, tanks come out of nowhere in an inhabited place, taking the population by surprise, as if we were in a war situation? Who is the “enemy” at last?
• When is the will of the people living in these Macedonian villages, to permanently stop the operation of the army exercise field, going to be respected? Why they receive mockery and violence instead?
• In which member State of the EU such shameless acts take place? When is Greece’s continuous international decrial going to stop?

Enough is enough! If, after all these incidents, the army exercise field will not IMMEDIATELY and permanently suspend its operation, the Greek authorities bare sole responsibility for anything that will happen in the future.

Protests as Greek army seeks to stage manoeuvres amidst Macedonian minority

Injuries, arrests and clashes between Macedonian minority inhabitants, the Greek army, and special police units, are continuing since yesterday afternoon in the village of Lofi/Zabrdeny in Northern Greece, next to the border with the Republic of Macedonia.

It all started when Greek army tanks and other armoured vehicles tried to move through the Macedonian village and reach an army taring site to practice heavy artillery fire. The inhabitants of Lofi/Zabrdeny, aided by people from the nearby villages of Meliti/Ovcharany, Vevi/Banica and Kelli/Gornichevo, blocked the road leading to the training site, demanding that no heavy artillery fire would take place and that the armed forces withdrew from the village. Instead, special police units arrived and tried by force to clear the road, arresting four people. Among them the President of the local Lofi/Zabrdeny municipal council, Kole Mitskopoulos.

Over the following hours more than 300 people from all the neighbouring villages came to the spot and demanded the immediate release of the arrested and the withdrawal of tanks and special police forces. Early this morning the four were released without charges and the inhabitants were promised that no heavy artillery practice would be performed.

“We were taken completely by surprise. Last week the army was also here but after the instant reaction of the people in Zabrdeny, they left promising that no tanks will show up. But they came to perform heavy artillery fire above our heads. We cannot allow this to happen, this is a severe health hazard, nobody knows what these missiles contain. Similar protests for the removal of army training sites happen all over Greece, but only here did we have this brutal intervention of the police. This is like a revival of the military dictatorship.” Said Kosta Tasevski, a Lofi/Zabrdeny inhabitant, to Eurolang.

The disputed army training site lies practically on the outskirts of Lofi/Zabrdeny, very close to houses and in the middle of private arable land. During army exercises over recent years, missiles have, accidentally, nearly hit the village while locals are not allowed for days to go to their properties. They are demanding the closure of the training site and the army has in the past promised that there would be no artillery fire.

The issue is set to be taken to the international level. Last week the Macedonian Prime Minister voiced concerns about the situation of the Macedonian minority in the region and urged Greece to withdraw its forces from the training site, situated next to the Greek-Macedonian border.

According to unofficial sources, the Macedonian government will send a protest note to Athens and Brussels later today. (Eurolang 2008)

The Greek police have begun beating up and arresting ethnic Macedonians!

Greek army clashes with local ethnic Macedonian population in village near Lerin

One Macedonian has minor injuries and four have been arrested, after incidents which took place this afternoon in the area surrounding Lerin (Florina). Ten days ago, after the requests from the local population, the Greek army withdrew from its training camp near the village of 'Zabrdeni'. Today, the Greek army returned to the region.

This time, the Greek army came with a strong police presence as well as tanks and other large automotive machines.

The Greek police specialists intervened when the local ethnic Macedonian population tried to stop the Greek army from setting up camp and heavy-military training right next to their village.

"They were arresting people and sending them to jail. They have four so far and by nightfall, they will surely arrest more", said a Macedonian from the Lerin region.

One man, an ethnic Macedonian, has been injured during the pushing and shoving, whilst four (4) ethnic Macedonians were arrested.

It is expected that trumped-up charges will be laid against them as early as this evening, for alleged assault on uniformed officers. According to Greek laws, one may face a few years in prison for such offences.

Macedonians from a few villages surrounding Lerin including Zabrdeni and Ovcharani are still in position blocking the path to the new training camp of the Greek army.

"We are sitting and lying down in front of the tanks, the people do not want the army to conduct its training with all this heavy weaponry. There are some 150-200 policemen here and those numbers will be strengthened, they will bring in the specialists. The village is Macedonian, it is called Zabrdeni", announced an ethnic Macedonian from the village.

After the last incidents which took place ten days ago, local leaders made an agreement with the army that in its actions in the region, it would not destroy the crop-growing fields, it would not use heavy vehicles and it would not use live ammunition for target practice, near the populated areas.

However, without any prior announcement, the Greek Government sent a new contingent of soldiers reinforced with police, who today created an incident in the Lerin (Florina) region. Local Members of Parliament were not informed of these activities by the Greek army, despite their parliamentary requests last week for the army not to disturb the peace of the local population in this region.

In stark contrast to the actions of the Greek army who withdrew without any problems, because of protests in the Peloponnese and other places, this time in Aegean Macedonia, the Greek Government has come with a different tactic.

The endless bickering over Macedonia’s name merely distracts from a far greater need.

SKOPJE | Josip Broz Tito calendars hang on office walls, memorabilia of the old Yugoslav leader clutter plywood shelves of Skopje’s bazaars, and on one of the capital’s busiest streets, the Broz Cafe is bustling on a warm October afternoon. The fading letters of the marshal’s “unity and brotherhood” speech that mark the international outpouring of help after the 1963 Skopje earthquake fill one crumbling wall of the former railway station – now the site of a museum and Tito memorabilia shop.

If there is Tito nostalgia in Macedonia, it may be more than fondness for an era when there were jobs and the Balkans were unified (never mind the political repression). “He respected our identity,” said one aging Skopje shopkeeper selling replicas of wartime memorabilia of the anti-Nazi partisan movement that Tito led. “He would never allow this shame to go on.”

Playtime's over, boys.

That “shame” is Greece’s opposition to Macedonia’s name. In one of the most intractable disputes resulting from the implosion of Yugoslavia, the Greeks insist that their tiny neighbor rebrand itself, fearing that “Republic of Macedonia” implies territorial ambitions on its northern region of Macedonia.

LETTER TO EDITOR: Macedonia, NATO, Greece

Sens. Olympia Snowe and Robert Menendez raise a critical issue in resolving the vexing name dispute between Macedonia and Greece in "Macedonian Quandary"(Commentary, Sept. 24).

Greece claims that "Macedonia" can only refer to a province in Greece and any use by any other country of that name is a direct attack on Greek sovereignty and an attempt to partition Greece. It's a bizarre claim, considering that Macedonia has only a police force along the common border and Greece is a NATO member.

The court of public opinion understands that there are two sides to every story - especially when it comes to the name Macedonia. Macedonians gained their independence following the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991.

Our small country of 2 million people borders Greece. After nearly falling victim to the ethnic divisions and wars that ravaged the Balkan region, Macedonians set about charting a course for Western integration. Over the course of just six years, we broke down political barriers and devolved government power, overhauled the judiciary and cracked down on corruption. Our country has emerged as an ethnic melting pot dedicated to building a democratic system based on the rule of law, freedom of speech, religious tolerance and human rights.

A modernized Macedonian military has deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. U.N. forces are using Macedonia as headquarters to keep peace in Kosovo. Clearly, we are a country that understands the underpinnings of NATO: shared democratic values.

In Macedonia, these are not just words; they are practices put into action. NATO has decided that Macedonia has earned entry into the alliance, but in April at the Bucharest Summit, one country objected - and that was Greece.

It objected not because of any shortcoming in Macedonia's exhaustive economic, political and military reform checklist but because of the name of our country. In doing so, Greece violated the interim accord it signed with Macedonia in 1995, which prohibits blocking Macedonia from any international institutions while the name issue is being resolved.

We cannot afford to let a debate that stretches back 2,000 years get in the way of the safety and security of Europe and the United States, and Macedonia remains determined and committed to resolving the name dispute with Greece.

NATO's December meeting presents an opportunity to extend an invitation to a country that will contribute to broadening NATO's sphere of security and democracy. Disagreements over a name should have no bearing on keeping Macedonia out.

Macedonians in Bulgaria and Greece under constant pressure

Representatives of the Macedonian political parties in Bulgaria and Greece were present at OSCE’s annual meeting dedicated to European minorities and human rights held in Warsaw, Poland.

Members of OMO Ilinden - Pirin, Macedonian party in Bulgaria issued a statement of unseen psychological torture.

- After our latest attempt to register the party, Bulgarian authorities started a systematic campaign of insulting and scaring our members. All 5,800 political members, I repeat, all 5,800 members were officially summoned by the Bulgarian police! - said representative of OMO Ilinden - Pirin at the meeting which encompassed more than 1,000 Governmental and non governmental organizations (NGO’s).

- Ladies and Gentlemen, this is psychological torture. Out of 300 political parties in Bulgaria, only our party and members are mistreated. Bulgaria is still defying an order from the Strasbourg Court to register our party - said representative from Omo Ilinden.

According to the Party, the police investigation was not to find irregularities within the party, rather to scare and threaten members to give up their membership in OMO Ilinden - Pirin.

The Macedonians in Greece were represented by their political party Vinozito, who said that Greece in line with their nationalist ideology refuse to recognize Macedonian identity and language. Greece, says Vinozito, has not ratified the Convention for protection of minorities saying it is a “useful tool for breaking up the Soviet Union and bringing down the Milosevic regime.”

“Vinozito” informs that Greece has refused to register a Macedonian Cultural Center in Lerin, which is a non profit organization.
- Almost two decades have passed, since 1989. The Berlin wall went down, but the walls of twisted views and injustices towards Macedonians in Greece still thrive - said representative of “Vinozito”.

The Macedonians in Greece have encouraged the Government to include “Macedonian” on their scheduled census for 2011. “Vinozito” informed of Greek Professor and Human Rights Activist Panayote Dimitris who is under constant pressure by the Police.

During the session, “Vinozito” presented a document recently published in Eleftherotypia of a meeting that took place between the Greek Secret Service and Editors of major Greek Newspapers who received instructions on what they need to write regarding Greece’s minorities.

Macedonians with Church Bells against the Greek Army

Thirty Macedonians from Ovcarani, Aegean Macedonia (Greece), for two days protested in front of a Greek military training field near the village of Zabrdeni, asking for the Greek Army to retrieve from their region, inform local citizens.

Greek soldiers who slept in tents under the open sky were woken up late at night from the sounds of church bells from the surrounding villages who all rang at the same time.

Ethnic Macedonians in Greece are fed up with the Greek Army intimidation tactics to show up with tanks surrounding their villages, under the auspices of ‘training’. Local resident who wished to remain anonymous explained to MINA that the Greek Army always chooses to show their might in cities and villages where ethnic Macedonians are the majority.

-They come here, surround our villages with tanks and stay here for weeks, sometimes months. They think we will get scared. Why don’t they do their training in Athens? - says an ethnic Macedonian from Ovcarani who also complained of the pollution the tanks caused to his crops.

Two nights ago, local villagers set up a four car road blockade to prevent the Greek Army convoy from reaching their training destination. A tractor was also added to the blockade, after which the Greek police and a public prosecutor arrived at the place of the incident.

Negotiations between the police and the demonstrators went until midnight, after which the Macedonians left.
Yesterday demonstrators gathered again to protest the presence of the Greek Army and their intimidation tactics who according to local residents never work.

Three elite units of the Greek MoI were sent to prevent the Macedonians from entering the training ground.

Macedonian Government worried for Macedonians in Greece

The Cabinet of the Macedonian Government has issued a statement on the protests of the Macedonians in Northern Greece in relation to activities of the Greek Army. "We are very worried about the protests and are hopeful Greece will take into considerations the reactions of citizens in that particular part of Greece. We hope the training of the Greek Army is not a demonstration of force." says in the statement.

A bilingual vernacular Gospel manuscript from Macedonia

(late 18th – early 19th century)

In the winter of 2003/04, researchers from the University of Helsinki found an interesting bilingual manuscript, written in what is now Greek Macedonia in the late 18th or early 19th century. It contains a Greek evangeliarium (Gospel lectionary for Sunday services) and its Slavic translation, both written in Greek letters. What makes the manuscript unique is its bilinguality, and the fact that both the Greek and the Slavic texts represent the vernacular, not the church language. The Slavic part is the oldest known text of greater scope that directly reflects the living dialects of Southern Macedonia. It is also the oldest known Gospel translation in Modern Macedonian.

The beginning of the Slavic text, with corrections by Pavel Božigropski, was printed in Thessaloniki in 1852–1853, and these four pages have been known in Slavic studies as the “Konikovo Gospel” after Pavel’s home village (nowadays known as Dytikó). The newly found manuscript shows, however, that the translation came into being earlier and in a fashion other than has been assumed. The manuscript also reflects the sound structure of the local dialect better than the short printed text did.

The manuscript must originally have contained about 124 pages, 74 of which have been preserved. The Slavic part is a valuable source for research into the dialects and more recent history of Macedonian. The Macedonian language is the closest relative of Bulgarian. It did not acquire a definitive standard language until after World War II.

Macedonians tied to Antic Macedonians, Greeks to Celtic, Germanic, Slavic...

Today’s Macedonians are descendants of the Antic Macedonians, says research results from the Swiss Genealogy Institute iGENEA. For a second time an independent research institution confirms what Oxford and Madrid University confirmed a decade ago.

iGENEA is the most famous global Genealogy institute who once again frustrated the Greek government by confirming the direct connection between the Macedonians today and in Antic times.

The question came from a Greek citizen who asked iGENEA the following question: "What are the roots of today SlavMacedonians".

The Institute responded: "Before all, they are Macedonians, not slavMacedonias as you referred to them for political reasons. The largest part of the Macedonians are direct descendants of the Antic Macedonians. Only a minor portion have a Slavic connection".

iGENEA backed up their findings with hard numbers. However, tying the today's Macedonians with Antic Macedonians is not the only disappointing information for Greece. According to iGENEA, only 32 percent of Greek citizens have Macedonian, Hellenic and even Arab origin. iGENEA further explains that 31 percent of Greek citizens have Celtic roots, 12 percent Germanic and Slavic origin, while 11% have Illyrian roots.

iGENEA also negated the Illyrians roots of the Albanians. In stark contrast to Albanian beliefs, IGENEA says the Albanians have the least Illyrian roots. Only 20 percent of the Albanians have Illyrian roots, while 40 percent of today’s Bosnians have Illyrian roots.

In the past several months, the iGENEA Genealogy Institute had been flooded with requests by Greek Citizens who, ironically, did not care for their own origin, but all questions were aimed at the Macedonians' origin. iGENEA in its research uses DNK analysis, historical, archeological, and anthropological sources.

Controversy in Greece over visit of UN minority expert

After reading the MINA article http://macedoniaonline.eu/content/view/3525/46/ about Panayotis Dimitras, member of the Greek Helsinki Monitor, I couldn´t help but remember what my father had told me about other United Nations visits to the Greek concentration camps in the Greek islands in the past where Macedonians and others were tortured daily.

It was naïve of me to ask, "Why didn´t anyone report the abuses while the people from the UN visited you?" "Because no one wanted to die a horrible death," was the answer. The UN and other investigative bodies came and went but the prisoners remained and were constantly reminded of what would happen not only to them personally but to their families and friends if they spoke up. They were also reminded that "the strangers will come and go but you will definitely stay". "How were we to know that these people were truly from the UN and not another ´Greek show´, a ploy to pull us into getting into trouble and giving the Greeks another excuse to torture and murder us?" was another answer I received.

If I were a Macedonian living in Greece today what would I think if a high profiled Greek such as Panayotis Dimitras is openly threatened in the face of the entire world with "high treason" and life imprisonment just for saying Macedonians exist in Greece? I would have to ask myself "if they can do that to Panayotis a member of the Greek Helsinki Monitor who is well known worldwide, imagine what they can do to me, an unknown person, if I speak up?" "Would I dare say I am Macedonian and risk my life and the lives of my family?" The answer would most likely be NO!

Macedonians have many examples to refer to where they were put in similar circumstances and many times were let down. The Greeks are back to their old tricks because these tricks are tried and proven tactics that have worked well for them in the past! They know this will bring them the desired results without any consequences.

But let me tell you something, not all Macedonians from Greece live inside Greece where the Greek government has them under its thumb. There are millions of Macedonians, yes millions of exiled Macedonians whose citizenship and properties were expropriated by the Greek government and who were driven out of Greece. To this day I have yet to find a single Macedonian who has left Greece willingly and hasn´t been driven out as a war refugee or as an economic refugee.

The Macedonians still living in Greece have no rights but they at least still have their lands, homes, citizenship and live where they were born. Unfortunately that is not the case with the Macedonians and other minorities which Greece has exiled over the years.

From what happened to Mr. Dimitras it should be obvious to everyone that the Macedonians living inside Greece are in peril from the Greek government and from the racist and fascist organizations the Greek state supports. Those Macedonians who volunteered information to the UN have put themselves and their families at great risk.

Greece has used similar threats before and knows its methods are tried and proven. It knows terror tactics will work because its minorities live and have always lived in fear and will not dare reveal themselves or freely speak to strangers. Greece will exercise its threats and send people to jail; it has done this before and has suffered no consequences so it will do it again. Macedonians living inside Greece unfortunately have suffered many consequences in the past and would be less willing to come forth with information.

Another place to obtain reliable information about the Macedonians in Greece is to interview Macedonians from Greece who live outside of Greece where they can´t be threatened with violence and long jail sentences.

To exile people from their homes and to have their homes, properties and citizenship confiscated is not only immoral but also illegal and today the law is on the Macedonian side.

Strong reaction between Greek and Macedonian internet users caused by the British TV Channel "Challenge TV". On a very popular quiz show there was a question "What nationality was Alexander the Great? The response "Greek" was Incorrect.

"The correct answer according to the TV producers was that Alexander is "Macedonian" and the flag of the former yugoslav republic of Macedonia was shown. Hundreds of Greek internet users voiced their disagreement at the Quiz internet site as well as on YouTube where the Macedonians posted the video."

This is what happens when politics is removed from history and facts. The British couple lost 23,000 pounds ($45,000) because of their wrong answer. Although sad, they'll never forget Alexander's nationality.

Greek Delegation quits UNESCO Conference in Bucharest

Greek Delegation left a UNESCO Conference for South Eastern European Cultural Heritage held in Bucharest.
According to the report, there are two reasons for this. "First reason is because Macedonia was listed under the constitutional name. Second reason is, at the conference Skopje offered a book that speaks of a "Macedonian language". Steps are undertaken from the Greek Embassy in Bucharest".

Panayote Dimitras facing High Treason charges for speaking about Macedonians

Greece has an investigation against me, the charges are “high treason”, because I had spoken about the Macedonians in Greece, says Panayote Dimitras in an interview for BBC Macedonian.
Mr. Dimitras is a member of the Greek Helsinki Monitor.
“I already met the prosecutor and gave my statement. If I end up in Court, the only possible sentence is jail for life.” says Dimitras, a long time campaigner for minority rights in Greece.
This interview was done shortly after the visit of UN Independent minority expert Gay McDougall in Northern Greece. Mr. Dimitras accompanied McDougall on her visit.
Himself and other members of the Greek Helsinki Monitor informed McDougall on all questions regarding her mandate; on the Macedonian, Turkish, religious minorities, including the Roma population, problems with racism and anti-Semitism.

- The message to the UN expert was this: the conditions in Greece are dire, none of the minority groups are represented at any level. In fact, if and when any of these minorities have a complaint, they are frequently attacked by the Media and Government. It’s not just the minorities. Organizations, such as ours that fights for equal rights and promotes rights are being attacked.
If I can use one sentence - Democracy in Greece, came in 1974, it is yet to come for the minorities, says Mr. Dimitras.

Can you describe McDougall’s reaction after she heard the responses from Greek Helsinki Monitor?

- We are not allowed to speak of her reactions. The only thing I can say is, something that she said at a Press Conference in Athens, is that the recommendations and suggestions of the UN Committee, and the Greek Helsinki Monitor would be part of her report. And in those reports is easy to see that Greece negates the existence of Macedonian and Turkish people, as well as the catastrophic situation of our Roma population. I do not doubt for a second that McDougall’s report would be much different than our official position i.e. there are people in Greece who identify themselves differently from the Greeks.

PM Gruevski: For how long will the EU tolerate Greece?

PM Nikola Gruevski said in an interview with Italian national TV station RAI that Macedonia has met all standards for the country's NATO accession, and about 75 percent of the eight European Union benchmarks, whereas their completion is expected by the beginning of October.

Pertaining to the name row, Gruevski stated that Greece makes an unprincipled blockage by asking that Macedonia changes its name, but also to determine its new name.

"Greece had already imposed such blockage in June, during the EU Presidency of Slovenia's, which assured the support of all Union member-states on the start of accession talks by the year-end, while Greece asked that the content of the report is not submitted to the European Council.

This means that Greece already blocked Macedonia once, so it will probably do this again, abusing its position in the European Union, devaluing the possibility and necessity for consensus among member-states when passing decisions", underlined PM Gruevski in the interview with RAI, adding it is a matter of time when would the EU stop tolerating this behavior by Greece.

Greece shaken up over UN and newly announced ECHR Visit

The UN Minorities Expert Gay McDougall is in Greece. According to the Macedonians in Greece, the Government in Athens will try in every way to show the visit as non important, although, they say, Greek Media has been following the story with great interest.

Namely, for the past two days, the UN representative is in Thrace speaking to the Turkish minority which is been referred by Athens as the “Muslim speaking" population - According to the Greek Government, “Muslim” is a language.

The Turks are a majority in Thrace and have decades old complaints of not being allowed to identify themselves as ethnic Turks.
The Greek Government does accept a ’muslim’ minority, without specifying their ethnicity.
The Turks and Pomaks are seeking autonomy for their region. McDougall also visited the Roma population.

Today, McDougall is meeting with Macedonians in Voden. She is also scheduled to meet Macedonians in Solun, Kostur, Lerin, Kukus and the villages gravitating around those cities.
The UN representative visiting the area insisting to be accompanied by representatives of the Macedonians in Greece even though this request drew a strong response from the Greek Government.

Instead, Mina finds, the Greek Government had planned for McDougall to avoid the regions where Macedonians lived, and instead take her to the municipality of Kutlesh, to show the Vlach minority.

According to Greek daily Eleftheros Typos, in its article “Minority Games”, Greece is one of the three countries that McDougall will visit this year. The other two where minority abuse is recorded are Ethiopia and Hungary.

Typos says official Athens is not commenting much on the visit, though Diplomats have confirmed this visit is a problem for Greece. The Daily further explains there's been great interest by the Americans to show the “Turkish Identity” of the Muslims in Thrace. Parallel to this, the axis Ankara - Skopje which developed after the Bucharest Summit grows stronger with the aim to create minority problems for Greece, concludes the Greek daily. Yesterday afternoon, the Greek Government received a note from the European Commission of Human Rights which announced their visit at the beginning of next month.

Ban Ki Mun interested for the Macedonians in Greece

"In Macedonia (Aegean Macedonia) there is a small group of people who speak an idiom which is different than the Greek language, however, they feel like Greeks and have all rights as the rest of the Greek citizens".

This is the answer Greek negotiator Adamantios Vassilakis gave the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Mun, explaining Athens position on the Macedonian minority in Greece.

The meeting occurred at the request of the Head of the UN, and it comes after receiving the letter from Macedonian PM Nikola Gruevski.

Ki-Mun, who four years ago at a Simon Trpcevski concert at the UN, called Macedonia under the acronym, explained to Mr. Vassilakis that according to his mandate and obligations, when it comes to basic human rights, the UN will analyze this particular case in detail.

Greek Diplomats are not revealing details of the conversation, though they confirm there were talks on the name dispute, as well as the procedures that would take place if both sides were to agree on an eventual solution.

UN’s Head interest for the Aegean Macedonians after PM Gruevski’s letter, is seen as a defeat for Greece, who up to now always managed to remove this theme from the UN Agenda, defending its positions with resolutions of the Security Council dating back to 1945.

In regards to this, and Greece’s failure to convince members of the UN SE European Group to use the acronym, Athens is considering making immediate changes at the “East River” Plaza.
The current Greek Diplomat at the UN is viewed as not aggressive enough, and is likely to be replaced with a member of Nea Demokratia.

Macedonian Human Rights Movement International (MHRMI) - Press Release

Toronto, Canada - United Nations Independent Expert on Minority Issues, Ms. Gay McDougall, was in Florina (Lerin), northern Greece today to investigate minority issues and meet with members of Rainbow (Vinozhito), representing the Macedonian minority in Greece.

The UN investigation is in response to a letter from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Nikola Gruevski, who requested that international organizations investigate the situation of ethnic Macedonian and other minorities in Greece.

“MHRMI, once again, expresses its gratitude to Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski for continuing to raise the issue of Greece’s mistreatment of its large Macedonian minority,” said MHRMI President Bill Nicholov.

Greece reacted by closing the Macedonia-Greece border earlier today. Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakojannis announced she will personally meet with the UN Expert where she is expected to express the official Greek position that it is the only country in Europe with no minorities.

MHRMI calls on all international human rights organizations to investigate, report, and monitor the treatment of Macedonian and other minorities in Greece according to international human rights law.

Greece shocked by UN Visit, closes Macedonia Border

The Greek Government showed their displeasure at the UN announced visit to Greece by closing the Macedonian - Greek border earlier today.

During the past two months, several Macedonian and Foreign Officials had sent letters to the UN as well as EU Organization regarding the plight of Macedonian and other minorities in Greece.
The European Commission responded that it is not competent to review the situation of minorities.

The United Nations on the other hand, decided to dispatch an expert to verify Athens claim of 99.9% Greeks with zero minorities.

Greece showed their dismay by the UN Visit when Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis announced she will personally meet with the UN expert Gay McDougall where it is expected for Athens to exert pressure on the UN representative.

Athens blames the UN visit squarely on Macedonian Officials for their letters, even though previously had mocked them.

As a ‘punishment’ Athens shut down the border, at all three border crossings (Evzoni, Medzitlija, Dojran) since early morning today, blocking Macedonian Vacationers from going to Greece. Foreign visitors going to Greece through Macedonia were allowed to cross the border.

The official story out of Athens for the blockade is “The Greek Customs are on Strike at the Macedonia Greece Border”. People most likely to be hurt here are Greek Hoteliers who have had by all accounts a dismal Tourism Season, as for the Macedonians, they can spend their vacation and shopping money in Macedonia, as they should have done in the first place.

Why is Athens so upset at the UN visit looking into the minorities?
According to Jane’s Defense Magazine and the Human Rights Watch, Greece has 500,000 Macedonians in Aegean Macedonia, with further 250,000 to 400,000 Macedonians (economic migrants) to the south, mainly in Athens.
HRW also adds the presence of 500,000 Roma population, 1.7 million Albanians of which 1 million are not citizens. The ethnic Turks and Pomaks in Trace number 400,000, and the Vlachs add additional 300,000. Greece also has registered 1 million legal immigrants from the Middle East and Africa, with further 500,000 illegal immigrants, mainly from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan.

Why does every name in Greece sound “Greek” hence stoking up Athens claims of “purity”?
Very simply, it is illegal in Greece to name your children with names other than “Greek”.

Athens, via the Greek Orthodox Church which acts as a de facto second Government forces citizens to adopt only a “Greek” name for their children.
A foreign or ethnic sounding name isn’t allowed by the Greek Church, and any new born will not be registered by the State, this way the myth of 'Greek purity' goes on.

As an example, the grandfather of Macedonian PM who was born in Aegean Macedonia (presently Greece), had his first and last name changed by the Greek Government from Nikola Gruevski to “Nikos Grujos”.

This is done to all ethnicities, not just the Macedonian one.

The results of UN Expert Gay McDougall to her "Greece's Minorities" mission will be made available to the world in March of 2009. She will investigate Aegean Macedonia, Thrace and other regions.

Greece continues its discriminations against ethnic from Northern Greece

“He was born in Kelli/Gornitsevo in 1951, he lived there for 18 whole years, then he immigrated to Canada. Last August he was informed that his Greek citizenship was revoked”.

One more case regarding removal of Greek citizenship from ethnic Macedonians became known this summer. Mr. Konstandinos Ilias from the village Kelli/Gornitsevo, Florina/Lerinsko, economic emigrant in Toronto /Canada learnt was informed some days ago that he had lost his Greek citizenship.

It all started when Mr Ilias went (in the beginning of August) in the municipality of Amindeo/Surovichevo in order to apply for a birth certificate. Full of irony and sarcasm an employee of the Municipality told him: “I cannot give you the certificate sir … your Greek citizenship is taken away’.
After such a statement, Mr. Ilias started questioning the town clerk about what happened and why he was not informed about it.
According to Mr. Ilia, the town clerk, wishing to get rid of him, literally threw an application form in his face, telling him that no matter how many requests he would do to regain his Greek citizenhip, they would all be in vain.
In addition, Mr Ilias was informed that both of his brothers, also economic immigrants to Canada, had lost their Greek citizenships.

Three adults, ethnic Macedonians, Greek citizens left Kelli/Gornitsevo – Florina/Lerinsko seeking a better life in Canada.
The only thing they did there was to continue living according to the customs of their birth place.
They were married in Greek Orthodox churches in Toronto, they baptized their children in the same churches, but they speak Macedonian, a huge “crime” they’re continuously committing.
Therefore, Greece decided to exemplarily punish them, by removing them their citizenship.
In theory, Greece is a very democratic country, a county, which in every occasion claims it fully respects human rights, including those of self determination or one’s right to use his/her mother language.

This is one more case proving that Greece doesn’t really respect these rights. This method (removing citizenship) is implemented by the “deep state” and its secret service to the Greek citizens who are “found” abroad to have expressed a different identity. Apparently, then, the secret services inform the Ministry of Interior and the final outcome is the removal of citizenship.

We expect an answer from the Greek authorities on how many ethnic Macedonians from Greece are black-listed and how many of them have lost their Greek citizenship.
EFA-Rainbow is fully aware that for many years (see Misalis, Markou and many other cases), Law 3370/95 (article 20, par. 1G) is implemented against members of the Macedonian minority in Greece.

Ultimate goal of the Greek authorities, except of course removing Greek citizenships from ethnic Macedonians, is to intimidate all Macedonians from Greece who live inside and outside the country, their families and close relatives. In other words, to and to keep them off from expressing their different, Macedonian, ethnic identity...

UN Expert to probe Greece on Minorities

UN Independent Expert on Minority Issues Gay McDougall will study the state of Roma and Muslims in Greece, and her program envisages visits to the Greek regions of Thrace and Macedonia, reports electronic edition of Greek newspaper "Ethnos".

The newspaper says that McDougall's unannounced visit to Thrace and Macedonia, especially in the area of city Florina, is probably stimulated by the recent requirements by Skopje authorities for recognition of the Macedonian minority in Greece and return of properties of refugees from Aegean Macedonia.

Before departing for the tour, McDougall met in Athens with the chief secretaries in the ministries of foreign affairs, education, labor and justice, and is to be received Thursday by FM Dora Bakoyiannis.

"It is not excluded that the U.S. expert reveals Macedonian and other minorities in Greece, which can be seen from her readiness", reads "Ethnos".

The Turkish Consulate to Greece also offered its cooperation in the tour.

According to the newspaper, McDougall plans to publish a report on the state of Roma in Greece, whose number is assessed at about 300,000, due to be presented in the UN next March.

A document from the Greek Secret Service, dating back to 1982, exemplifies the methodical steps Athens took to destroy Macedonian ethnic conscious as well as the “idiom” within its territory.

The plan had been drafted on February 16, 1982, by the Chief of the Greek Secret Service, Dimitris Kapelaris.

According to the plan, Athens had created a Secret Team nicknamed “Plot Against Macedonia” that was dispatched to Aegean Macedonia and infiltrated into all aspects of public life: (Tax office, Schools, Army, Church, etc). This is the period when a lot of Macedonians were followed, jailed, fired, beaten, for publicly stating they were Macedonians, not realizing they were being spied on at every level.

The Greek Secret Service also had plans for Florina (Lerin) residents who failed to “feel Greek”, and feared may succumb under local Macedonian influence. As a solution, the Secret Service proposed to give these people money, brainwashing literature, and creating a cultural organization named “ARISTOTELIS”. A brilliant plan, that ought to make them “Greek”! The magnitude, the sheer stupidity and lunacy of these people is remarkable.

Dimitris Kapelaris took a moment to congratulate the Secret Service for managing to ‘almost’ wipe out the Macedonian conscious and the ‘idiom’ in Kastoria (Kostur).

The Greek Secret Service despised the fact that Macedonians marry only Macedonians in Greece, and made plans how to mix marriages, so the Macedonians would loose their ethnicity.

Were they trying to create more of the Karamanlis type? Their plan backfired, to this day Macedonians in Greece marry Macedonians.

1982, the year of this letter, is also the year Athens implemented laws banning Macedonian refugees from returning to their properties - Not a coincidence.

Former German Ambassador to Macedonia, Hans Lottar Stepan in an interview with Mia, Mina, A1, says Macedonia should not under any circumstances yield to Greece.

He also calls Macedonia a “victim of Europe’s 20th century conspiracies”.

- Your Excellency, for your book “The Macedonian knot”, you have received numerous awards. Most recently the “Krste Petkov Misirkov” award, but also award form Macedonian Academy of Sciences. How much these awards mean to you, as a satisfaction for your 15 years of research on Macedonia.

I became a spiritual warrior for Macedonia. I have received awards from the County of Kisela Voda, from MANU, and the latest from the Ramkovski Foundation. It’s an honor for me to receive any, and all of them, I am very happy.

- Arguments you have put forward in your book, “The Macedonian knot” have helped many people here and abroad to learn about Macedonia, its history.

I am convinced that if any politician wishes to understand today’s political conflict between Macedonia and Greece, must look deep into the history. This history proved what I believed, for example, Greece prior to 1913 had never had Aegean Macedonia in its possession. Not in Antic, not in Roman, not during Ottoman, not at any point of time did Greece had anything to do with Macedonia.
Only after an outrageous breach of international law in 1912-1913 during the Balkan Wars, together with Bulgaria and Serbia & Montenegro. They all occupied and took Macedonia, Thrace, and Epir.
The main basis here is, Greece has illegally stolen Macedonian territory, which is against international law.
This historical connection is independent from the right of Macedonia to self determination. Everyone on earth has the right to self determination, so does Macedonia, and no one can change this.

Macedonian Parliament unanimously adopts to support Aegean refugees

The Parliament of Macedonia adopted Wednesday unanimously by acclamation a Resolution on the Refugees from Military Actions in the Republic of Greece during the Civil and Second World War.

It envisages the Government to support the legal struggle of the Aegeans with regard to returning the seized properties during Greece's Civil War and to inform the Parliament on the course of the procedure every six months.

A group of legislators from all parliamentary parties put forward the Resolution on the Refugees from Military Actions in the Republic of Greece During the Civil and Second World War.

Civil associations of refugee children and other citizens exiled following 1949 and the end of the civil war in Greece, referred to the Parliament's Standing Inquiry Committee for Protection of Civil Freedoms and Rights with a petition in 2004. In the past few years, the committee reviewed the petition exhaustively as well as the request, voiced by the associations, the Parliament to take and declare appropriate positions before the local and international public.

As a result of the unified positions, the Standing Inquiry Committee and 11 MPs from all parties filed the Resolution on the Refugees from Military Actions in the Republic of Greece During the Civil and Second World War to Parliament's President on 14 Dec. 2007.

According to historians and data obtained by international organisations for human rights protection, a bulk of the hundreds of thousands of people that fled Greece during the civil war were Macedonians, most of them children.

In an attempt to raise the issues of the Macedonians in Greece and exiled civilians after the civil war, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and Speaker Trajko Veljanoski sent letters to their colleagues, international representatives and organisations.

HRW asked for protection of Macedonians in Greece in 1994

A fact finding mission by the Human Rights Watch back in 1994 had asked the International Community to intervene and protect the Macedonian minority from decades of abuses perpetrated by the Greek Authorities.

According to the HRW, abuses ranged from: restriction of freedom of expression only for ethnic Macedonians, discrimination by the Greek Government towards employees that identify as ethnic Macedonians in the Public Sector, to harassing, threats, jail, economic and social pressure for Macedonian Rights Activists, among many things.

The importance of this document is substantial and would serve in the ’name negotiations’ as the HRW gives a historical perspective of the region thus revealing Greece’s blatant and constant disinformation campaign towards the world, and specifically towards their public.

Below is an excerpt from the HRW report:

HRW: During the years between World Wars I and II, Greece followed a policy of assimilating the Macedonian minority and Hellenizing the Macedonian region in northern Greece. The government changed place names and personal names from Macedonian to Greek, ordered religious services to be performed in Greek, and altered religious icons.

Under the Metaxas dictatorship in Greece (1936-1941), conditions of the Macedonian minority deteriorated markedly. More than 5,000 Macedonians from the Yugoslav border area were interned, the use of the Macedonian language was forbidden, and Macedonians were required to attend night school to learn Greek. Moreover, many of those who spoke Macedonian were fined or beaten.

Greece prevents Aegean Macedonians from entering Macedonia

The Greek border Authorites earlier today prevented a group of Greek citizens, ethnic Macedonians from entering Macedonia, local media reported. According to sources in the Greek Government, their citizens were not allowed to enter Macedonia because they needed to obtain "new passports".

Unofficially, the Macedonians had been treathened by Greek Authorities to not visit Prilep where they were taking part of a Football Tournament named "Roots, Juniors 2008".

The ethnic Macedonians showed up on the border wearing the traditional Macedonian red colors. Greece hasn't established a particular friendship with the red color ever since painting the British East India flag Blue.

"Obviously someone was bothered that they were Macedonians. They think if they stop them from coming to Macedonia, the Macedonians there will somehow forget about Macedonia", said Zoran Petrov, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Similar incident ocurred on the Bulgarian - Turkish border. Once the Bulgarian Authorities saw the large group were Macedonians from Turkey, they refused to issue them a transit visa, citing 'byrocratic problems'.

"We don't know the reasons why they were not issued transit visas, they waited for one until the last moment" said Boris Temoski, president of "We are Here".

"We will look for an explanation why they were not allowed to enter, from Greece and Bulgaria. It is common practice for Greece or Bulgaria to come up with an excuse that "the passports need to be brand new" or "they applied too late", we have heard this more thousands of times. We are sick and tired of this." said Zoran Petrov.

Several hundred Macedonian junior football players gathered in Prilep, Macedonia, hailing from Serbia, Slovenia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria.

All of the youths as well as Tournament Management weren't surprised that Macedonians from Greece didn't make it.

These incidents just confirm the inhumane treatment Macedonians get in Greece and Bulgaria.

Greece refused to share the stage with Macedonia during the closing of the folklore festival in Burgas, Bulgaria and made a scandalous exit.

Greek participants said they are departing because they can not stay on the same stage with the ensemble from Macedonia.

This not the first time Greek representatives to protest, due to the name dispute, at events in which representatives from Macedonia participate. One can hope Greece's exits from all events where Macedonia participates become a tradition.

Gruevski urges Nimetz to include MOC recognition in name talks agenda

Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has sent a letter to mediator Matthew Nimetz, urging him to include the recognition of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC) by the Greek side within countries' name dispute talks.

Dnevnik daily in its Tuesday edition, citing diplomatic sources, says Gruevski suggested to the mediator the Macedonian church recognition issue to be a part of the package of solutions to the dispute.

- I ask you, if it is possible, to include this issue into Your attempts on resolving the dispute of our constitutional name, which recently has been enlarged with several other open issues. And if Your attempts end in success, taking into consideration that in addition to the name You are striving to resolve several other open issues between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Greece, this issue to be incorporated into the agenda of our priorities, Gruevski writes to Nimetz.

In the letter, he also presents a lengthy elaboration and background of MOC's church dispute with some of the orthodox churches, mainly the Serbian and Greek ones, while highlighting their closeness and solidarity.

Елем, како мало потстување. Сите досегашни владеачки гарнитури се потепаа од фалење колку големи инвестиции ( разбира се, странски) ќе донесат.
Колку се донeсени, знаеме...
И во последново предизборие, како изборна мамка (особено од власта) се користеше истата финта – странски инвестиции, нови вработувања итн.
Дури, Груевски и компанија во тек на кампањата, отидоа во Франција во важна мисија за донесување странска ивестиција ,а, она за да потпишат некое писмо за намера за инвестирање со фирмата (мислам)“Монтале“- фалејќи се дека со оваа инвестија ( иако се ова е уште само како намера, ама изгледа доволно за изборно фалење- ветување ) ќе се обезбедат 500 нови вработувања ....во неколку години натаму.....
Што би рекол народецов,“не липсај магаре до зелена трева..“.

Е,ако тоа е се’ што политичарите можат да понудат на народот, што може народот да си понуди самиот на себе, па да мрдне малку напред !??

“Кај нас, поради разни партиски и владини субјективизми, никако да се почне и да им се даде вистинска шанса на непартиските и невладини граѓани за да дојдат до правилно валоризирање и вреднување на своите иновации, проекти и идеи. Скоро беше, кога неколку интелектуалци со високо образование и со ретки иновации, пазарно актуелни, дојдоа во Здружението и ни се обратија за разбирање и помош, како своите милионски вредни иновации од меѓународно значење да почнат да ги реализираат во стопанската дејност си што истовремено би вработиле околу 600 нови луѓе за почеток“.

Дали ви е ова јасно: готови проекти за нови 600 вработувања – пазите: не 500 за намерувана инвестиција (што вероватно нема да се оствари) и тоа за неколку години – туку 600 вработувања - сега, тука, веднаш.
И , ништо.

Затоа што “во Македонија, пред се', не постои ефикасен пазарен механизам за валозирање на иновациите и за заработување од нив (патенти, дизајн и слично). Непријатна е констатацијата дека завршените високи школи на иноваторите, нивното работно искуство, и умеење што го стекнале „не вреди ништо“ и оти бидејќи никој нема кој да ги вреднува нивните дела, тие може да заминат од земјава.“

Дали вреди да се објаснува понатаму со ваков интерес каков се покажува за ова!?
Отсекогаш трудот и творештвото - како индивуални активности- не се сметале како патриотски категории- урлањето, удирањето во гради.,јазичарењето, самофалењето(не само на политичарите) без дела (по)лесно поминува како “патриотизам“.
И да не должам, да не си губам времето, за некој кој е заинтересиран за ова да укажам дека цитате се дел од писмо објавено во “Дневник“, па може да се прочита цело.

На почетокот, кампањата беше владин хит и заради веќе пословичната “транспaрентност“ на владата не дознавме колку од нашите пари отишле (каде?) за кампањата.
Се велеше дека само со 1% од инвестициите што ќе дојдат веднаш по камапањата ќе ги покријат трошоците за кампањата.
И ?
И, ...... ништо !
Изгледа светот не не’ разбира. Ќе да е тоа дело на опозицијата која непозитивно гледала ( а, можда и фрлила некоја магија ?) на камапањата!?

А, неодамна, претставници на обединетата македонска дијаспора, среде Скопје се изјаснија :

Иселениците би инвестирале само во средена Македонија

Нивни изјави се :

“Македонија итно да ги подобри административните процедури и да ги забрза судските процедури ако сака да ги привлече инвестициите од македонската дијаспора во САД“.......

“Голем дел иселеници во Австралија чекаат да се подобри бизнис-климата за да отворат компании во Македонија, но за тоа е потребна намалена корупција“....

Е, сега, нашиве од странство ако не и веруваат на кампањата и не сакаат да вложат некој долар, а не’ знаат добро што сорта сме, како да се очекува ( а, за тоа дебело сме платиле) од други кои не не’ знаат добро, да ни веруваат на некоја (нека биде и убава реклама) и туку така да ги вложат своите пари кај нас!?
Ма, ајде !..

И за на крај, нешто како показател на ефектот од оваа кампања, според студијата на реномираната консултантска компанија “Делојт“, Македонија е на последното место по интересот на инвеститорите во Европа

За инвестирање во Македонија, Молдавија и Црна Гора интерес пројавиле 10 отсто од инвеститорите во источна Европа, додека за овие земји интерес воопшто немаат инвеститорите од западна Европа.

The study of the Macedonian identity has given rise to far greater controversies and debates than that of most, if not all, other nationilisms in eastern Europe. This has been only in part due to the hazy past of the Slavic speaking population of Macedonia and to the lack of a continuous and separate state tradition, a trait they had in common with other "small" and "young," or so-called "non-historic," peoples in the area. Controversy has been due above all to the fact that, although it began in the second quarter of the nineteenth century, Macedonian nationalism did not enjoy international acceptance or legitimacy until the Second World War, much later than was the case with other similar national movements in eastern Europe.[1] Recent research has shown that Macedonian nationalism developed, generally speaking, similarly to that of neighboring Balkan peoples, and, in most respects, of other "small" and "young" peoples of eastern, as well as some of western, Europe.

But Macedonian nationalism was belated, grew slowly and, at times, manifested confusing tendencies and orientations that were, for the most part, consequences of its protracted illegitimate status.[2]

For a half century Macedonian nationalism existed illegally. It was recognized neither by the theocratic Ottoman state nor by the two established Orthodox churches in the empire: the Patriarchist (Greek) and, after its establishment in 1870, the Exarchist (Bulgarian). Moreover neighboring Balkan nationalists-Bulgarian, Greek, Serbian-who had already achieved independence with the aid of one or more of the Great Powers, chose to deny the existence of a separate Macedonian identity; indeed they claimed Macedonia and the Macedonians as their own. They fought for Macedonia with propaganda and force, against each other and the nascent Macedonian nationalists. A prolonged struggle culminated in 1913 with the forceful partition of Macedonia after the Second Balkan or Inter-Allied War between Bulgaria, on one side, and allied Greece and Serbia, on the other.[3] Each of these three states consolidated their control over their respective parts of Macedonia, and throughout the inter-war years inaugurated and implemented policies intended to destroy any manifestations of Macedonian nationalism, patriotism or particularism- Consequently, until World War II, unlike the other nationalisms in the Balkans or in eastern Europe more generally, Macedonian nationalism developed with-out the aid of legal political, church, educational or cultural institutions. Macedonian movements not only lacked any legal infrastructure, they also were without the international sympathy, cultural aid and, most importantly, benefits of open and direct diplomatic and military support accorded other Balkan nationalisms.[4] Indeed, for an entire century Macedonian nationalism, illegal at home and illegitimate internationally, waged a precarious struggle for survival against overwhelming odds: in appearance against the Turks and the Ottoman Empire before 1913 but in actual fact, both before and after that date, against the three expansionist Balkan states and their respective patrons among the Great Powers.[5]

The denial of a Macedonian identity by the neighboring Balkan states, and their irreconcilably contradictory claims, motives, justifications and rationalizations, are mirrored by the largely polemical and tendentious Bulgarian, Greek and Serbian literature on the Macedonian question.[6]

Letter by the President of the European Commission – Jose Manuel Barroso

2 August 2008

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr Nikola Gruevski, recently sent a letter to the European Commission’s president, Mr José Manuel Barroso regarding the human rights problems confronting the Macedonian minority in Greece. In the letter the Prime Minister states:

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia appeals, within your competences, to personally engage for Greece’s strict obeying of the obligations stemming from international instruments regarding human rights, with special emphasis on free expression of ethnic identity and all rights stemming from that. Our expectation is Greece, as a member of the EU and NATO, to start dialogue which will lead to meeting the recommendations of the European Commission.
In response the President of the European Commission, Mr Barroso replied with the following:

…it is important to clarify that the European Union has no general competence to deal with issues such as identities of minorities, their rights, acquisition of citizenship and restitution of properties, arising in its Member States. This is the primary responsibility of the Member States in the light of their constitutional traditions and international obligations.
This is an unfortunate and insensitive response by the President of the European Commission on an issue as fundamental as the protection of human rights within a Member State of the European Union (EU). It seems strange that the representative of the EU would use such indifferent language in addressing the concerns over human rights abuses of ethnic Macedonians in Greece. This is especially the case given that the EU likes to wrap itself around different humanist ideals and announce triumphantly their commitment to human rights. Indeed, the EU is increasingly establishing fundamental rights as part of EU law as a means of legitimizing the EU itself. Clearly there appears to be a gap between EU rhetoric and reality; at the same time that the EU affirms the importance of human rights, it actually does nothing to secure any of them.

What President Barroso could have asserted was that the EU has an unwavering respect for the protection of human rights and has a particular interest to ensure that its Member States, namely Greece, is aware of their obligations. For example, the founding treaties of the EU make references to the “fact” that the EU is “founded on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law” and that it “shall respect fundamental rights, as guaranteed by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”. In fact, accession to the Convention is something that has been made a condition for EU membership.

President Barroso could have mentioned that the Charter of Fundamental Rights that was “solemnly proclaimed” by the European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission deems it “necessary to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights”.

A lot of statements after the letter from the primer minister od Republic of Macedonia to his greek colleague Kostas Karaamanlis , as :

“….repeats the previously known unacceptable statements regarding non-existent minorities etc...”

”…..speaks about an alleged minority, attacking Greece because it allegedly violates the rights of existent or non-existent minorities…He follows concerted destabilizing orders...”

“We are dealing with statements which are unacceptable in form and content, as well as with an unfortunate attempt of raising non-existent and unfounded issues” ……..,

came from top Greek officials and politicians in less than a week’s time, only because highly-ranked Macedonian officials “dared” to officially raise the taboo issues of the ethnic Macedonian minority in Greece. And, unfortunately, anyone addressing this issue, along with the repatriation of the Macedonian political refugees who were forcibly expelled from their birth places during the Greek civil war (1946-49), is “provocative”, “disgraceful”, “slanderer” or “follows orders from unknown patrons”.

Since, then, ethnic Macedonians inside and outside Greece are “non-existent”, we kindly ask all Greek politicians and mainstream media (which bristle with hatred towards Macedonians) to answer the following:

• For whom did the Greek state print in 1925 the Primer of the Macedonian Language “ABECEDAR”? Even before the printing of this book, in a official but secret census the Macedonian language was clearly mentioned. The “non-existent” Macedonian minority spoke a “non-existent” language?
• Who are these that were mentioned in all official national censuses of the Greek state up until 1951 as “macedophones”, “slavophone Macedonians”, of “Slavic”, “non-Greek” or “unstable” national consciousness, of “declared Slavic beliefs”? What happened to them, after 1951?
• Is it possible that they “no longer exist” as former Minister Pangalos stated some years ago?
• If they don’t exist, exactly how did they “disappear”?
• If they still exist, why then Greece keeps calling them “non-existent” every time someone brings up this subject?
• Why was the population of whole villages back in the 60s forced to collective oaths, in order to stop using the “cursed Slavic idiom”?
• Under what excuse did the Greek state allow in 1982 the repatriation only of the political refugees who were “Greek by genus”? This indirectly but clearly means that the thousands of political refugees who had lost their citizenship and cannot return to their birth places are defined as “non-Greek by genus”. The relatives of these people who remained within the Greek borders do not constitute an ethnic minority then?
• Why Greece, with its official and unofficial structures, has created a whole mechanism to impede even a short-term visit to Greece from these political refugees who have clearly stated a non-Greek national conscience? Because of whom was the notorious “unwanted list” in Greek border crossings created , why is it still valid and enhanced today, including not only political refugees but also financial immigrants of Macedonian origin?
• If what Greece claims to be true, that Macedonians are Greeks only, is indeed true, then why does the country prohibit for 18 years now the registration of the cultural association “Home of Macedonian Culture”, pretentiously ignoring relevant rulings in favour of the registration from the European Court for Human Rights?
• Why Greece is reluctant to conduct an official census of all ethnic and linguistic minorities, in order to have an undisputable proof of the existence or non-existence of the Macedonian minority?
• And last but not least, maybe the most important question of all. How is it possible that Greece, a country that constantly fancies itself to be the “cradle of civilization and democracy” is de facto denying at the same time elementary, fundamental human rights to its citizens, like the right to self determination and all that derives from it in educational and cultural fields? Why Greece is not ratifying any of the relevant international conventions it readily signed in the first place??

The Vienna-based South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), a network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI), wishes to express its concern after the Greek authorities denied a group of journalists from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Republic of Macedonia) entry into the country.

According to information before SEEMO, on 19 July, journalists from TV A1, TV A2, Forum and Makedonsko sonce were on their way to report on a cultural event in northern Greece, and were bearing standard passports with regular Greek visas. However, at the border the journalists were denied entry with the explanation that they did not have the permission of the Greek government to report on the event. One journalist from Forum was denied entry although he had a journalist’s visa. An offer to enter Greece as non-journalists, without their cameras and other technical equipment, was declined by the journalists. They were also told they could enter the country as journalists after the cultural event was over.

SEEMO condemns this move by the Greek authorities. Greece is a member of the European Union, and expected to uphold the right to press freedom, one of the pillars of democracy. Decisions like this prevent the ability of journalists to work freely and hinder the free flow of information. We urge Your Excellencies to do everything in your power to ensure that cases like this do not happen in the future.

Athens urges Sofia, Belgrade to change their positions on Macedonia’s constitutional name

According to A1 TV, authorities in Athens have been urging Bulgaria and Serbia for a few weeks to change their positions on Macedonia’s constitutional name.
“Encouraged by Sofia’s most recent positions presented publicly on Macedonia’s history, which according to some politicians there has Bulgarian roots, Athens proposes unreserved support for Bulgaria in Brussels where European funds have already been suspended for Bulgaria,” comments the television.
In exchange for the change in the stance, Athens suggests to Serbia support for its Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as lobbying for Kosovo, which is one of the reasons for Greece not to recognize Kosovo’s independence up to now. For now Athens has a positive answer neither from Sofia, nor from Belgrade. Unlike Serbia, which still awaits the decision of the new government in Skopje about Kosovo recognition, the Bulgarian government has replied that it has no dilemmas as to Macedonia’s constitutional name.

of the Macedonian Minority in Greece

The modern Greek folly has always been its persistent but reckless denial of the existence of a Macedonian nationality. The hysteric intolerance against ethnic Macedonians has distorted the Greek collective consciousness so much that Greeks are no longer capable of differentiating between their wish that Macedonians were truly nonexistent and the actual Macedonian reality, which so defiantly confronts them.

As their Macedonian phobia continues to feed their schizophrenic psyches, rather than dealing with the Macedonian reality like rational people, they instead cry out for sympathy and comfort while hoping to be freed from their Macedonian nightmare, just like a small child who has awakened from a bad dream and cries out to his parents for comfort.

Such was the case in 1947 when the Greek government protested to the United Nations' Security Council regarding border violations by its northern neighbors. Greece demanded that Yugoslavia cease and desist overt military and logistical aid to the guerrillas fighting in the Greek Civil War, many of whom were ethnic Macedonians.

On December 19 1946, a Commission of Investigating was established by the United Nations pursuant to the resolution of the Security Council to examine alleged Greek frontier incidents. To the surprise and dismay of the Greek government, the Commission of Inquiry broadened its scope of investigation to include the treatment of minorities, tendentious misstatements of facts in press and radio, activities of foreign military and police missions in the four countries concerned and arraignments of free port or free zone facilities in Salonika.

University professor criticizes Athens

on Macedonian issue

Greece should recognize the existence of Macedonian minority, compensate the confiscated property to the expelled citizens and accept double formula for the name in the talks with Macedonia.

This was suggested by the professor of international relations at the Panteion University in Athens, Alexis Heraclides.

According to the Greek university professor, it is a fact that the property of Macedonian population in the period 1949-1950 was confiscated, even without court orders.

Greece allowed a big mistake to be made with the seized property of "SlavoMacedonians" and if this issue is brought before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, it will have to pay damages, professor Heraclides assesses.

According to him, Greece should "stop shoving its head in sand" and claim that "SlavoMacedonians" don't exist, because their number is around 30-40 thousand.

Some of them, according to Heraclides, have Macedonian "ethnic" self-determination, while others have integrated fully into the Greek ethnos, because of which "there is no danger for the Greece's territorial integrity".

The professor suggests Greek authorities to have new, realistic position in the negotiations with Macedonia on the name differences.

According to him, the issue should be solved by Greece's acceptance of compound name (such as New Macedonia, Upper Macedonia or North Macedonia), which would be used by Skopje for bilateral communication with Athens only, but not for international use.

Ovcarani, a typical Macedonian Celebration

The celebrations of the religious and national holiday St Ilija (Ilinden) is under way in Lerin, Ovcarani without incidents and in accordance to scheduled program.

Around 6,000 Macedonians are in Ovcarani, in what according to Vinozito is a 'traditional Macedonian celebration', with dancing and folk songs. There is also a scheduled appearance of Macedonian Folk/Dance group "Tanec".

The largest Greek Media outlets have thrown a black ink on the celebration saying "extremists from Skopje, purposely provoke Greece" even though the celebrations take place every year, says Vinozito.

According to the Macedonian Party in Greece, the largest and most popular Greek Daily "Ta Nea" in its reports said that Macedonian president Branko Crvenkovski will make a 'provocative speech' in Ovcarani (Meliti).

Vinozito believes the goal of the Greek Media, under direction from the Greek Government is to make everything possible in scaring off the Macedonian population as to reduce their number in the celebrations. That way the representatives of the Government could confirm their statements there were no Macedonians in Greece.

Vinozito's members are asking how can a "European" country, such as Greece, allow the parade and provocations of right wing organization like "Hrisi Avgi" who constantly moved around and intimidated Macedonians by yelling threatening vulgar statements thus trying to change people's mind not to attend the celebration.

US State Department: It's a matter between Macedonia and Greece

U.S. State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said late Thursday the issue of the refugees and Macedonian minority in Greece is a matter between Macedonia and Greece, reports Voice of America-Program in Macedonian language. Thus, McCormack provided a response to the initiative of Macedonian PM Nikola Gruevski on resolution of the requests by refugees-ethnic Macedonians from the Greek Civil War in 1940s, and recognition of the Macedonian minority in Greece, contained in the letter sent to Greek counterpart Costas Karamanlis. "This is a matter between Macedonia and Greece. I understand the correspondence was between those two parties, so I'd refer you to either party for comment about it", said McCormack at the daily briefing. According to him, this is a completely different topic from the name issue. "From our point of view, we would like to see Macedonia and Greece work out the name issue, which is a completely different topic. I know a lot of people are devoting a lot of time and energy to that topic. We certainly would like to see those negotiations come to a successful completion soon", added McCormack. McCormack denied that USA would intervene regarding the issue of refugees and recognition of the Macedonian minority, reiterating this is a matter between the two countries, not involving the United States.

Macedonian Journalists blocked from visiting Greece

Greek border authorities blocked the entrance of Macedonain Journalists from A1, Vreme, Forum, Makedonsko Sonce and Dnevnik.

The TV crews wished to film the gathering and the begining of the Macedonian celebrations in Lerin and Ovcarani, which are scheduled to start today, traditionally two weeks before Ilinden, with Ilinden being a day for picnic.

Greece had put more than a hundred policemen at the border, as well as near Ovcarani. Greek border authorities told the Macedonian journalists, the reason for their blocking is they didn't have a 'proper accreditation' to visit. The journalists were told they could visit Greece, i.e. their accreditation would work after the celebrations in Lerin and Ovcarani are done.
